Summary of the hydrofoils R&D

Hydrofoils R&D 2015 update
after successful TFW and some good sessions on the lake, plus a lot of time
on the comp and in workshop, here the summary of the work!

Y foil
As already posted the Y Moth sail ruder hydrofoil!
Status, vertical mold ALU done, foil on testing!

AHfoils

The Classic kite hydrofoil done for the AHcustoms.ch
The hydrofoil with great potential for super low take of and great gliding suport
true the jibes and free riding. The set up and construction allow the modifications to
the race setup too!

Precision of the CNC molds

 General look

"O"wing

And not the last one, as was predicted here the "O"wing concept kite hydrofoil.
Out there in the aeronautic circles they are different names of this kind of wing set up!
From the box wing, circle wing, elliptical wing, closed wing, joined wing all of them are use the same
idea to drop down as much as possible wingtip vortex!
The working name Owing was chosen as the shape run continues all around!

With three new hydrofoils in this period I am happy to complete the work.
T "Y" and the Owing are booth into the testing period, more of the conclusions later on!

Stay tuned

Y hydrofoils

Mahalo,
as I mention in previous post, the work is done on Y hydrofoil.
It was planed to have finished the foils to TFW at Garda lake,
but was not on priority list :-(

Well I can proudly present the completely new R&D on the Y hydrofoils.
On this project two parallel activities come together. First is I have constructed
and ordered the ALU vertical mold for autoclave technology. This shape can be
used for kite foil vertical or for the Moth boat! Maybe for some future development
on the foiling boats! Game is open. The mold is 1400mm long, tapered from
120 to 100mm with parallel section of 300mm on the top! The the weary first piece
it was made by Albatross-fly company based in region! More about company
here http://www.radolca.si/en/albatross-fly/
and the web page
http://www.albatross-fly.si/proizvodnja.htm#
They are simply the best, we know each other for decades and the foils was made strait
into this "cook pot"

Of course autoclave technology and the result is outstanding.
Big thanks for this suport to Albatros-fly company!

To this vertical I was add the Y hydrofoils! There are at leat two reasons,
one is to avoid the cutting the water surface, the second is to spread the forces
just like V tail on airplanes but in negative direction! Anhedral shape again like
I am using on the tail for kite hydrofoil
http://drlojz.blogspot.com/2015/03/the-internet-galaxy.html

I am sure this set up ca also better handle the flutter on the hydrofoils,
see the post  http://drlojz.blogspot.com/2015/08/wing-flutter-hydrofoils-flutter.html
while the negative V ir Y shape of the wings will spread the forces differently.
So no flutter anymore or at least later at higher speeds!

So if we see this photo on http://sailinganarchy.com/
with the question "what is it?" I am not surprised! Free minds go forward,
it will never stop!

This photos was made on rainy afternoon on local lake Bled, just after the maiden
fly was made. as usual unlucky with the wind, but enough to prove the take off
in 8knots and stable fly. All I can say at the moment, the Y hydrofoil works at
least good as old normal one! more testing and when the weather go better!

 So much at the moment!

Wing flutter & Hydrofoils flutter

Mahalo,
I was just watching the the US nationals regatta in Moth class and in this video
https://vimeo.com/136467586
at the 04:30 + the whole foil set up come in the flutter
OR
maybe I am wrong and this is just the sampling of the video
(hope yes) otherwise I can only imagine the sound and the vibration :-(

We all know how hard are the Moth foils build, almost unbreakable and
to see the flutter like this O la la! I hope everything was gong well there!

I know flutter is not common on Mach2 boats, here I can not judge if this foils are "home build"
but it is interesting to see!

My answer to this problem are Y foils!

The foiling week Garda 2015

Mahalo,
right back from Garda lake, complete some photos and
you can find the gallery here
https://plus.google.com/photos/111689916731696792459/albums/6169455467865315169

or here TFW 2015

As the last year TFW is the best meet of the foiling boats from all around the world.
Good organization from Domenico, Luka and the rest of TFW team. For any R&D,
design or manufacturing people, it is priceless to be there. All the right power people are
coming together, have discussions, the forum run and it is much more to see on the water!
So do not miss this event in the future!

Amac was presented the new Waszp, the people foiler, so this is now official ;-)
Good work done Andrew!

The ahcustoms.ch kite hydrofoil was there, well accepted from foil community!

Well for this year we have with us the Old-timer as well. 10years of foiling or living museum
as we have jokes in foil community! The axeman7 moth sill on foils, well we broke the push road
on the main foil, so we was on the water only for two days. Oldy survive and crew also and
this is important!

White bear cat, Luc is assisting and help to crew!

Three type of today foiling boats,
Moth, Laser and FF, the kite foil is missing!

The SLO 4201 Luka Tomori doing well for the firt time on the event!

Next year generation of foilers ;-)

Ota preparing the boat for the lake trials!

In all, Garda lake, TFW we are coming back for next year,
not for holidays, with new stuff, new ideas, new products!

The internet galaxy & hydrofoils

Mahalo readers,
Not I am lazy, but simply no time on the running projects to be really accurate here and write
daily/weekly the news on the blog! Some of people are simply better on CAD and in workshops
at R&D, some of them are writers and good on social media pages.

Lets make some update on kitefoils under R&D.
It is true the post on Kite forum push me to write here again
http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=879622#p879622

Where the community found from Christmas card the Owing kite foil. Really happy to see some
of the people have really sharp eye on new products.

For me not new foil, the Owing was presented at TFW on Garda lake last summer
http://drlojz.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-foiling-week-garda-lake-2014.html
Where all the big minds of foiling world come together, to present and interchange the work, ideas etc.

At the moment the molds for "classic hydrofoil" are ready in production, I will post here the finished product!
The kitefoil is developed  for the www.ahcustoms.ch from Swiss!

 Main Crossover AH-foil wing mold

 Body mold finished
 Vertical half of the mold
 The negative V tail

Here some early comp graphic from last year! The Owing is under development and before summer is in plane to hit the water ;-)

Lets move the product to be simply as possible!
